Thembrian Army

The Glorious People's Army serves the country
of Thembria and protects her from foreign dangers. Its commander-in-chief,
the Thembrian High Marshall, possesses complete control of
all army resources including patrol vehicles, tanks, and countless
foot soldiers. The remainder of the Thembrian Army command
is divided among various chief commanders and colonels, all
of whom report directly to the High Marshall. As one of the
senior commanding officers in the Thembrian military, Colonel
Spigot head of Thembria's air force shares some
measure of control over the Thembrian Army.
Thembrian Soldiers
Serving in the Thembrian Army for the "greater glory
of their Motherland," Thembrian soldiers occupy practically
every Thembrian city, base, and government building. Tireless
and unquestioningly loyal to their country, Thembrian soldiers
are the muscle behind the mighty Thembrian military machine.
New recruits for the Glorious People's Army are usually ordinary
commoners who join the military as a means of advancing in
Thembria's social hierarchy. Rigorous drilling, training,
and official state indoctrination produce the formidable soldiers
found throughout the Thembrian Army. After that, it's nothing
but an endless string of patrol duties, guard details, and
other menial tasks worthy of the common Thembrian foot soldier.
Very few soldiers ever make it past this stage to reach commander
status, as most Thembrian grunts lack enough personal initiative
to even seek promotion.
Thembrian soldiers are stalwart defenders of their country.
Stone-faced and implacable, Thembrian soldiers are trained
to do nothing but follow orders and follow them well. In fact,
most Thembrian grunts spend their entire careers following
orders. Their average lack of intelligence and resourcefulness
limits their overall competence, but when fighting, Thembrian
soldiers are very tough opponents. Trained for brute strength
and not much else, Thembrian soldiers can be easily tricked
or conned, but never into disobeying their superiors or betraying
their Motherland.

Slush Police
A special branch of the Thembrian military is the "Slush
Police," a government law enforcement agency responsible
for keeping the peace in the tundra nation. Consisting of
a handful of patrol vehicles assigned to several squads of
armed officers, the Slush Police fleet continually scours
the frozen wastes surrounding Thembrian cities or military
installations, always on the lookout for suspicious activity.
Various "speed zones" are designated throughout
the Slush Police's patrol areas, usually ranging from 35 to
45 miles per hour for land vehicles. Violators are seldom
picked up for speeding or reckless driving on the other
extreme, recreation in state-owned snow is a serious offense.
Slush Police officers are trained veterans with a comprehensive
knowledge of Thembrian law enforcement and regulations. Their
patrol vehicles are little more than boxes equipped with tires
and directional skis, but most officers are capable enough behind the wheel
to maintain pursuit with fleeing suspects, at least until
they or the offenders lose control of their vehicles in the
slushy Thembrian terrain.

Thembrian Army Land Vehicles
The Glorious People's Army utilizes a variety of armored
vehicles to defend and protect the Thembrian nation. Considering
the widespread influence of Thembria's military, most of these
vehicles can be found in large numbers throughout the Thembrian
continent, concentrated mainly in large cities such as the
nation's capital.

The typical Thembrian Army light patrol vehicle is the Thembrian
half-track, a small four-man armored truck designed to quickly
navigate the snowpacked streets of the Thembrian capital.
Fast and rugged, the half-track uses a combination of motorized
treads and ordinary wheels to maintain traction while in fast
pursuit. Most models come equipped with a large cannon turret
mounted atop the rear platform, manned by a single gunner.
Maneuverable as it is, the half-track can be extremely dangerous
for novice drivers to handle, especially when thrown in reverse
gear.

Thembrian Light Tanks
For more serious ground defense, tanks are widely used in
the Thembrian Army. Several models of Thembrian
tanks exist, designed for different purposes and mission types
although their basic design remains the same from model to
model. The Thembrian Army has literally hundreds of tanks
running constant patrols around Thembrian bases and cities.
One of the less-used but still reliable Thembrian models,
the Thembrian Army medium tank packs tremendous punch in a
compact armored frame. Constructed of sheet-gray steel plates,
Thembrian medium tanks are slower but much more durable than
the lighter half-track patrol vehicles. A powerful 50-millimeter
main cannon gives the medium tank awesome firepower; but the
gun mount is relatively inflexible, severely limiting the
cannon's accuracy at short ranges. Most effective when deployed
in numbers, Thembrian medium tanks typically patrol Thembrian
airfields and secure military installations such as the Thembrian
Air Force Academy.

Thembrian Heavy Tanks
By far the most common Thembrian ground vehicle is the Thembrian
Army heavy tank. A mainstay of the Glorious People's Army,
the Thembrian heavy tank is used for a wide variety of assignments
ranging from ground escort to standard patrol, to service
on the Thembrian national firing squad. Colored a dark brownish-gray
in contrast to the lighter (and lighter-colored) medium tanks,
heavy tanks use powerful diesel engines to attain speeds as
fast as their lighter counterparts.
Extremely stable firing platforms, Thembrian heavy tanks
sport a single 65-millimeter main cannon mounted on a ball
joint which offers a wide range of movement. The cannon can
tilt several degrees in any direction, enabling the gunner
to fire accurately at close-range targets and even hit low-flying
planes. Three separately-operated light cannons mounted on
the turret and base complete the tank's weapons array. Needless
to say, these weapons make the Thembrian heavy tank a valuable
asset to both the Thembrian Army and the Glorious People's
Air Force.
